The song Smile? I bet most people (most of the non Beach Boys fans) think about the Charlie Chaplin tune, or maybe versions of Michael Jackson or Nat King Cole.
We've got for you the first and original version of Charlie Chaplin's Smile, that is the filmmusic, without words.
John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons added the lyrics and title to it in 1954, and the first recorded lyrics version was by Nat King Cole, that same year.
Hundreds of covers followed, but I'd like to show here a recent live recording by Bobby McFerrin and Chick Corea.
Dianna Reeves has also recorded a different Smile, with the lyrics "A smile is just a frown turned upside down".
At last there are the songs that are really influenced by Brian Wilson's SMiLE music:
Music of REM, the High Llamas and and the Fleet Foxes.
Their song Quiet Houses, not the melody, but the style, reminds me of the last part of Wind Chimes. (listen at 2m28s)
