3 INSTRUMENTALS
WONDERFUL
2011
Adrian Holovaty - Wonderful
(acoustic guitar instrumental)
GOOD VIBRATIONS
2010
Music City Bronze - Good Vibrations (handbells instrumental arrangement)
Almost a gamelan orchestra.
1967
Hollyridge Strings - Good Vibrations
Instrumental arrangements that copy the original note by note sometimes tend to sound like boring muzak.
This one however has some fresh differences thrown in.
7 COVERS WITH VOCALS
HEROES AND VILLAINS
2010
Van Dyke Parks - Heroes and Villains
[live in the studio/WNYC's Spinning On Air, a 'reinterpretation']
Could be called a self covered tune, because he wrote all the original lyrics to it. If you wanna know the difference in Brian Wilson arrangements and Van Dyke Parks arrangements, just listen!
2000
Malcolm Ross - Heroes And Villains (from the Caroline Now! cd)
Kinda Texas Mexico feel?
Unlike the original, all parts of the song are played in one tempo.
2007
Geraint Watkins sorts out the Heroes and Villains (live)
Prima Louis Prima style!
WITH ME TONIGHT
2011
Mike Huckabee (aka posturex1) - With Me Tonight
This guy does many great covers, with much passion and energy!
BARNYARD
2003?
Tim Shell - Out In The Barnyard [SoundClick MP3]
(not a Beach Boys version) 1:07
Please replay!
COOL, COOL WATER
Holland SMiLES - Cool, Cool Water (CoolestBassCave20Nov) by Aumbop
I was proud to be part of this recording. (November 2003)
Some main differences with the Beach Boys version from 1970:
The high 'theremin' sound is more prominent, the middle part has real water sounds, as upposed to the original had a kind of moog emulation of a waterfall, and it doesn´t fade.
SURF'S UP
Stephen Newcombe - Surfs Up
Watch out: maybe the first 47 seconds are a boring repetition of samples, but after that it develops in a beautiful, romantic, free reinterpretation of the song. Art as art should be, not a 100% imitation.
7 BONUS TIPS: (NOT ON YOUTUBE)
Pollytones - Our Prayer/Gee/Heroes & Villains
(& all of BWPS version covered acoustic!) It's a real shame they had to remove their respectful work of art from YouTube
Van Dyke Parks & Orchestra - Wind Chimes (live at the Hollywood Bowl)
(in Debussy style arranged by Van Dyke Parks, from the Beach Boys Symphony) Beautiful!
The Kings Singers - Good Vibrations a capella
Todd Rundgren - Good Vibrations
(amplified guitars instead of cello triplets)
Gary Usher - Fall Breaks and Back to Winter
Spooky Halloween Party
~ And 2 from the cd Smiles, Vibes & Harmony:
Mooseheart Faith – Wind Chimes (heavy & psychedelic)
Nikki Sudden & The Mermaids - Wonderful/Whistle In
