repost: VAN DYKE PARKS TO DO RARE LIVE PERFORMANCE AT MISSISSIPPI STUDIOS

Repost from 2010, because it has some interesting quotes, and it might shed a light on why Van's participation on the upcoming 'SMiLE Sessions box' is low key / or maybe publicity is kept low key at his request?

QUOTE:
Also don't count on hearing any songs from "Smile."

"I spent a lifetime of condemnation in the shadow of its incompletion," Parks said.

He calls the finished album (BWPS 2004) "adequate" but bemoans the absence of artist Frank Holmes' original cover art (which inspired the songwriting process, Parks said).
Other than calling him in to finish a few lyrics, Parks said, Wilson's camp didn't consult him on any decisions regarding the finished "Smile."

FORMER HEAVY BLINKERS FRONT-MAN EMERGES AS ANDREW WATT AND THE GLORY GLORY FOR NEW FULL-LENGTH

While Halifax's the Heavy Blinkers haven't given us much to work with recently, former co-front-man Andrew Watt is set to release his debut solo album on March 16.
Watt, who departed from the orchestral-pop band in 2008, now leads Andrew Watt and the Glory Glory, and has supposedly channelled the sound of Brian Wilson in what a press release calls “an orchestral pop gem,” titled First Day of Summer Life.

THE CHARMING BEAUTY OF THE MAN FROM ANOTHER PLACE

Over here at Popgeist Towers, we are big fans of Twin Peaks.
We were exposed to David Lynch's surreal and cult television series upon its first airing back in 1990 (first time round, hipster alert).
At the time we were still in short shorts, didn't have a clue what was going on and was scared shitless. Some things never change.
The main cause of our anguish was from a character in the series called "The man from another place." He was quite possibly the scariest midget of all time.

SXSW 2010: CRAYON FIELDS

Melbourne-based quartet Crayon Fields first happened on the music scene in 2002, when they were still in high school. Now, with two records and three singles under their belt, the band has matured into an extraordinary euphoric pop band. Songwriter Geoff O'Connor took time off from touring in his native Australia to speak with Spinner about the band's history, future, and his personal battle with kleptomania.

VISUAL ARTIST AND FORMER RECORD PRODUCER DAVID ANDERLE TO EXHIBIT LOS ANGELES-THEMED PAINTINGS

Brian Wilson - 1966David Anderle

During his lengthy and successful career in the West Coast contemporary music scene of the 1960s through the end of the 1990s, David Anderle continually pursued his passion for painting.
“Though I always thought I would quit and paint, and in fact took a number of jobs just to make money to keep painting,” he says, “I started producing and fell in love with working with musicians.”
