Brian Wilson Songwriter 1962-1969 DVD

2010-11-23 -> popshifter.com
Each new documentary about Brian Wilson or the Beach Boys adds another drop to the ocean of product already available.
Many of them are the same old story, with poorly-researched information and no original music.
This is most certainly not the case with Brian Wilson: Songwriter 1962-1969.
At three hours of interview and analysis spanning two discs, the new release from Sexy Intellectual stands head and shoulders above its peers.

Brian Wilson: On Record

September 1st, 2011 -> americansongwriter.com
He sings his answers over successive bowls of strawberries at his favorite L.A. deli. The fullness of his thoughts is purely musical.

THE PUZZLE OF BRIAN WILSON’S SMILE

IN A RADIO PROGRAM broadcast on BBC Radio 1 in the early 1990s, Beach Boys band member Bruce Johnston was asked about the status of Brian Wilson’s legendary unfinished album Smile. This is what he said:

"It’s not far from completion. That could be completed if he wanted to put the energy into it. I don’t think I’d attempt to do it. ’Cause it’s not my work, you know. I’d rather he did it. It’s in fragments. It’s just a bunch of fragments. And they’re really good, really superb . . . fragments."

BOB SHALLIT: ROCK FANS INVITED TO RECORDING STUDIO 'FANTASY CAMPS'

Maybe a collaboration with Brian Wilson

QUOTE:

Only one fantasy camp is currently confirmed: a yet-to-be announced August date with Starship's Thomas, who is recording a 16-track album with "cover" songs by artists ranging from the Beatles to the contemporary Snow Patrol.

A July camp is tentatively scheduled with ex-Monkee Dolenz, who is recording a Carole King tribute that will include guest artists Brian Wilson and Emily Osment

SONGWRITERS FROM THE 805 ARE WELL-REPRESENTED IN NEW CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL BOOK

Start typing the words “the rose” into Google, and before you can even hit enter on your keyboard, the search engine generates a list of things it thinks you’re searching for.
Topping the list is not “the Rose Bowl” (No. 2) or “the Rose Parade” (it didn’t even make the cut), but “the rose lyrics.”

Q&A WITH BRIAN WILSON

BRIAN WILSON
Los Angeles, California 1988

Sleigh bells in the summer. Darkness in the sun.
These dichotomies have been at the heart of Brian Wilson’s music since the start of the sixties when he, his brothers, a cousin and a neighbor started a band that would become an American institution: the Beach Boys.
